  • That’s a great question. This is an opportunity to get to know your therapist & see if they’re a good match for your needs from counselling.

Your therapist would like to learn a bit about you & share their approach:

    1. What is going on right now?

    2. What would you like to achieve through counselling/ therapy? (Your goals & hopes)

    3. A little roadmap to the process (what to expect, therapy approach)

    4. Answer any questions you may have

Usually at the end of the call, we also like to discuss your scheduling needs, fees & payment options & book your first session together (if you are ready to do so)!

  • Great news – you're already on board! After booking your first session, your therapist will send you and/or your partner an intake and consent form. Please ensure these are completed before your initial meeting.

At the beginning of your first session, your therapist will cover crucial information like confidentiality, consent, the counseling process, outcomes, and our cancellation policy. This is also a chance to address any extra questions you might have.

Your therapist will then discuss with you: "Why are you seeking therapy?" and "What are your therapy goals and desired outcomes?" We'll delve into your communication style during challenging conversations and how they sometimes turn into arguments or disagreements. Your therapist will provide initial feedback on emerging patterns and continue the assessment.

For couples counseling, we conduct 1-2 individual sessions with both partners to understand each person's attachment style by exploring their childhood stories, past traumas, previous relationships, and unmet needs in the relationship.

Lastly, we value your feedback about the session and plan for our future work together. We suggest booking sessions ahead of time, at least four in advance, to secure your preferred time slot and maintain consistency, which leads to better results.

  • Each session is 60 minutes in length except the first couple's session which we recommend to be 90 minutes in length.

    Fees Breakdown:

    Individual Therapy: $170/1hr
    Couples Therapy: $190/1hr
    Couple Therapy (initial session): $285/1.5hrs

Please note that all of our services are subject to being pro-rated based on the session length & inclusive of all taxes.

  • We accept payment either via E-transfer (Interact) or Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express).

Please note, that we require all our clients to have a credit card on file prior to booking your first appointment together regardless of payment method.

  • Many private extended health insurance providers cover services provided by Registered Psychotherapists. However, it's crucial to check with your specific insurance provider to understand the extent of your coverage. We do not provide direct billing to insurance companies, and clients are expected to make payments through our accepted methods. After your session, you'll receive a detailed receipt, including the registration number, which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

  • This is the “clinic fav” question asked very commonly during initial consultations. The answer is very subjective as no one shoe fits all. It varies & depends on a lot of factors like goals from therapy like short-term( 8- 12 sessions) or long-term (20+ sessions) based on individual needs, attachment history, trauma history, treatment type & focus as well as commitment.

In the beginning, we recommend regular weekly meetings for 4-6 weeks as that allows consistency for relationship building, assessment & skill building. We can space out the sessions to Bi-weekly or Monthly as the positive shift begins to happen allowing more space to practice new skills between sessions.

Please note that therapy is a voluntary process & we appreciate an open dialogue, regarding progress, feedback & best way to support you in building your dream life.

  • We are dedicated to providing our clients with our utmost commitment and effort. In return, we expect the same commitment and reciprocity. To maintain the quality of our services, we request a minimum of 48-hour notice (business days) for any session cancellations or rescheduling to avoid late fees.

Late cancellations and no-shows not only disrupt the treatment plan but also prevent other clients from utilizing the available session slots. Failure to provide a 48-hour notice for cancellations or missed appointments will result in a full session fee charged to the clients.

  • The majority of our therapy sessions are currently conducted online through secure, encrypted video chats. This approach provides our clients with the convenience of connecting from various locations, such as the comfort of their homes, workplaces, or even their cars. Virtual therapy offers numerous advantages & backed by research is just as effective as in-person therapy, including easy access, no commute or traffic, and the flexibility to schedule sessions without needing to arrange childcare. Many couples appreciate the ease of tucking their young children into bed and seamlessly starting an online session later in the evening with just a simple click.

We do have limited spots for in-person therapy, check our Contact Us page for details or email us at info@voyagecouplestherapy.com for more info.

  • Confidentiality is also an important legal concept that applies to all regulated health professionals, including Registered Psychotherapists. The Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) establishes the rules relating to the confidentiality and privacy of personal health information in Ontario. PHIPA requires that personal health information be kept confidential and secure.

However, there are certain situations & circumstances where limits to confidentiality apply by law without your consent:

    • If there is a reason to believe that you are at serious and imminent risk of physically harming yourself or another person.

    • If a child under the age of 18 is at risk due to neglect, physical harm, or abuse, we are mandated reporters under the Child and Family Services Act, of 1990 to report to Children’s Aid Society.

    • If your file or therapist is subpoenaed by the court

    • For the purpose of contacting a relative, friend or potential substitute decision-maker of the individual, if the individual is injured, incapacitated or ill and unable to give consent personally;

    • Supervision: To ensure the best care, we receive supervision from qualified professionals. This may involve sharing personal health information with our supervisors. We are willing to share our supervisors' names and credentials upon request.

    • If we become aware of any abuse or neglect involving a healthcare professional, it's essential to report this to their relevant college or authority.
